Dynamo Kiev held Fenerbahce to a 0-0 draw Tuesday in Group G of the Champions League.
A tense first half turned into a scrappy game marred by constant fouls. With the partisan crowd behind them, Fenerbahce had most of the possession but failed to capitalize, continuing their poor form in the domestic league.

“We dominated the game. We did not give away any chances,” Fenerbahce coach Luis Aragones said. “Our aim is to be victorious in all of the remaining games,”

Oleksandr Aliyev had the best chances for Dynamo. In the seventh minute, the midfielder’s left-footed shot from outside the penalty area missed the target. A right-footed shot from a free kick in the 22nd then bounced off the top right corner of the upright.

“Fenerbahce played well but our players gave them a hard time,” Dynamo Kiev coach Yuri Semin said. “We were very successful on defense. It was a good game,”

The second half saw more of the same, but the Fenerbahce attacks increased.

In the 48th, Fenerbahce captain Alex de Souza shot wide from the center of the box. A minute later, Dynamo goalkeeper Stanislav Bogush blocked two shots with Emre Belozoglu close in.

“We found three goal positions but were not able to capitalize on them. We have to continue playing in this rhythm,” said Aragones, who led Spain to the 2008 European Championship title. “We were the side that deserved to win.”

Fenerbahce played Dynamo after three losses in five games in the Turkish league. It is the worst start in 20 years in a league season for Fenerbahce.

“We lost points in the (domestic) league and it would have been good if we could have come to this game with a better morale,” Belozoglu said.

In the first game of the group stage, Fenerbahce lost to FC Porto 3-1, while Dynamo held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at home.
