Spectator dies of heart attack after soccer game
Soccer newsA 61-year-old retired firefighter and former goalkeeper has died of heart failure following the Iraklis-AEK match in the Greek soccer league, police reports.
Sotiris Serafim, who was attending the match Saturday night collapsed immediately after it ended. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Serafim had a history of heart problems, Greek media reported.
Sources say Serafim’s death appears to be unrelated to the violence that erupted after the match ended and which saw riot police intervening to separate the opposing teams’ fans, hitting some of them with truncheons.
AEK won the match 1-0.
