Rodionova eager for shot at Fed Cup
Tennis newsAustralias Fed Cup chances are expected to be boosted with Anastasia Rodionova joining the countrys female ranks.
Russian-born Rodionova became an Australian citizen at a ceremony in Melbourne today, after having lived in the Victorian capital with her partner since 2005.
The world number 96 joins 13th-ranked Samantha Stosur and world number 57 Jelena Dokic as Australias top three female players.
Australia plays a Fed Cup tie against Spain in February, and Rodionova says she would love the chance to play for her new country.
I hope Tennis Australia will contact me soon, since I have the Australian citizenship now, she said.
If I could play Fed Cup that would be great.
I was really looking forward to that.
The 27-year-old is scheduled to play her first WTA tournament as an Australian in Brisbane next month, in the lead-up to the Australian Open.
Rodionova says she is excited about being able to represent her new country.
Its tough to explain, its a really strange feeling and more its relief, he said.
I was waiting for it for such a long time and finally I have a chance to represent Australia at every single tournament I play.
