Mens tennis tournament returns to Atlanta

Atlanta will host an ATP Tour hard-court event next July for the first time in nine years.

The tour, which announced the event on Thursday, bought the sanctioning rights to the Indianapolis tournament that has been held in July but recently had attendance and sponsorship issues.

Atlanta previously hosted a mens tournament from 1986-2001, before the rights for that event were sold and the tournament was moved to Argentina.

The new event will be played the week of July 17-25.
