Australian Open Tennis Odds – Eight former women’s no. 1’s compete for Aussie Open

Tennis betting news

The Australian Open tennis odds are even more wide open on the women’s side than they are the men’s. Online betting cappers know that Serena Williams may be the favorite, but she’ll have to content with as many as seven former world No. 1’s at Melbourne Park.  Don’t be shy to take underdogs on this side of the draw.

What: Tennis Betting
When: January 18th
Where: Melbourne Park – Victoria, Australia

The Storyline – Australian Open Betting
The women’s draw is always wide open, depending on how committed the Williams sisters are, but this Aussie Open will be particularly unpredictable because the Belgian contingent is strong once again. Both Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin are back and both are among the favorites.

There are plenty of competitors and this will be one of the most contested Aussie Opens in a long time.

The Favorites – Australian Open Tennis Odds
Serena Williams (+250), Kim Clijsters (+340) and Justine Henin (+480) are the favorites. Clijsters made her return last year and won the U.S. Open in controversial fashion, but how comfortable are you in betting a woman that took a couple of years off? Same with Henin, who took a 20-month break but nearly beat Clijsters in Brisbane earlier this month.

Williams is still the best of the bunch when she’s on her game and it’s smarter to lay your money on her than to take your chance with a couple of women who haven’t played in this event in a while.

The Sleepers – Australian Open Tennis Odds
There are a horde of sleepers – if you want to call them that. From Serena’s big sister, Venus, to Russians Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Dinara Safina and Elena Dementieva, to Serbians Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, For the Aussie hopes, unfortunately there isn’t much in the Sportsbook.

Safina could be a choice but she isn’t fully healthy after just making it back from a two-month injury. The Serbs are an interesting choice but neither have played well in Grand Slams recently. Venus hasn’t been a factor at the Aussie Open for a while Dementieva is regularly a bride’s maid.

Take a shot with Sharapova, who was absent last year but plays well at this tournament. She’s past her shoulder problems and could be a real factor here.

Australian Open Tennis Odds Pick Among The Sleepers: Sharapova +1200

The Longshots – Australian Open Tennis Odds
Sports betting cappers might have a tough time picking a long shot among the women that haven’t been named. Samatha Stosur did some damage to the top five on the women’s side last year, but she’s lost her confidence of late.

Ivanovic, at +4000, might be considered more of a long shot as well.

There are a slew of youngsters, such as Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who reached the U.S. Open Semifinals last year, Caroline Wozniacki, who made it to the U.S. Open Final, and Dominica Cibulkova, who is fast on the court, but Victoria Azarenka will be our long shot pick.

At +3000, there are far from any guarantees, but she is the No. 7 player in the world right now and she absolutely drills the ball, which should do her well on the hard court. The 20-year-old Belarusian will have to quell her nerves, but she’s improved year by year at the Aussie Open and is a deep sleeper to take it all.

Australian Open Tennis Odds Pick Among The Longshots: Azarenka +3000
